In The Beginning

Stewart Bewley

In the beginning we were all able to scream and never lost our voices. There’s a reason “The terrible twos” aren’t called “The quiet, nervous twos”; so what has happened to us? Why do our voices tire and our nerves get the best of us? Why is it some people are great at presenting themselves and some not?

Have you ever looked at how a young child sits and stands? They have perfect posture, amazing breathing and their entire little bodies are brilliantly connected. That is where great presentation skills begin and that is what we must get back to — good posture, good breathing, good connection.

When we hit puberty we lost all of this. We graduated into adulthood, maintaining the bad habits puberty gave us! It’s not rocket science; it does require a re-training of your body and voice. We need to get back to basics. As these blogs continue, we will be sharing some simple practical ways to help you project yourself the best you can; from speaking in front of a large audience, to handling conflict in a line management meeting, it’s about knowing you have the skills to communicate your message.

In fact, It’s all about confidence. At Amplify we know that when you coach someone to stand tall, breathe well and connect their voice, they will grow in confidence; they will discover they have a voice that can be projected, a story to match that voice and a message that can be delivered. It’s that simple.
